What is Grow Force?

Initially, the concept title was Granddad's Greenhouse and that name still stands for the area that has been set aside at Waddecar for us to use. Grow Force is the title for the activities that are provided within Granddad's Greenhouse.

November 2005 saw the launch of our very first Grow Force Course where 40 Scouts joined the scheme to work their way through the Scout Forester and Smallholder badge schemes. The programme was to run for 4 weekends at 3 month intervals so that the Scouts experienced the trees and land in each of the four seasons of the year.

The scheme had mixed success and in the end, a good number of Scouts were awarded their badges having been tested by an external examiner who is a specialist in this field.
Looking back, although the scheme did not run exactly as planned and we had a few disasters such as slug infestations, scorched crops, waterlogged crops and damage by rabbits, overall, the scheme was a roaring success and Waddecar is certainly a better looking place for the efforts of those people involved. Not least being the success of planting over 200 new native trees which have really transformed the Bill's Meadow area of the Camp Site.

For the future, we now have a larger dedicated team of people to take the project forwards and we have some great plans for people to be able to join-in with our fun throughout the 2007 season.
